INTBAU turns 25 in 2025. On this special occasion, we are inviting a global audience to London to join a full programme focused on the recent and potential future state(s) of traditional building, architecture, and urbanism.
From 22-24th October, the World Congress will celebrate the foundation and successes of INTBAU and lay the groundwork for constructive discussions about the role and responsibilities of tradition in our built environment’s next decades.
When founded in 2000 INTBAU was needed to tie together the small number of practitioners globally who were working in isolation. 25 years later, conditions have changed and are changing, and the number of education programmes and built projects that embrace tradition are growing exponentially.
INTBAU 25: Progress in Tradition will chart this change, across the fields of learning, practising, and teaching.
So much current conversation about buildings and places focuses on what is broken, bad, unbuilt, or impossible. INTBAU’s World Congress will give cause to feel optimistic about our built future, by spotlighting some of the people and the large- and small-scale projects globally that are creating better places to live, rooted in tradition to support the health and happiness of communities and our shared planet. In Gustav Mahler’s memorable words:
Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.
Every healthy, living tradition is a work in progress. We invite you to join us in London in October, and to leave feeling more optimistic, more aware, and resolved to play a role in the preservation of an essential fire.
