Mieke Bosse

Joining the URBANISM: Place-making & Place-mending panel discussion is Mieke Bosse is a Dutch architect with more than 40 years of experience in restoration, housing, and urban design. A graduate of the Technical University of Delft, she has been actively engaged in architectural movements addressing housing and urban issues since the early 1980s. In 1988, she received the National Prize for Renovation for saving the historic Pander factories in The Hague, a project realised with Peter Drijver and local activists.
As founder of Scala Architects, Mieke has developed a diverse portfolio of housing and neighbourhood projects that integrate restoration, renovation, and new construction. Her work is distinguished by vernacular traditions, sustainable solutions, and a deep commitment to community participation, translating residents’ input into feasible and lasting designs. Alongside her practice, she has taught at universities in Delft, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Hamburg, and Hannover, at the University of Minnesota, and in international summer schools for traditional and classical design.
