Philip Fry
Managing Director of CG Fry & Son and long-standing developer of Poundbury, the pioneering model of traditional urbanism in South West England.

Joining the BUILDING: Craft & Construction panel discussion is Philip Fry, Managing Director of CG Fry & Son, a third-generation family firm that has grown under his leadership into one of South West England’s leading builders. Since 1993 he has been closely involved in the Duchy of Cornwall’s Poundbury project, applying its pioneering principles to CG Fry’s award-winning developments and collaborations with legacy landowners across the region.
Poundbury is an experimental urban extension to Dorchester in South West England, initiated by the Duchy of Cornwall under the vision of King Charles III. Designed to embody principles of traditional architecture, walkable mixed-use neighbourhoods, and sustainable urbanism, it has become an internationally recognised model for place-making. Philip’s long-standing role in its development offers valuable insight into how traditional building methods and design principles can be successfully applied in contemporary contexts.
